As our project is based in the Himachali foothills of the Himalayas, we have created Chanchalo and Kuncholi as a celebration of the place and the local community we call home. Their costumes are inspired by the beautiful traditional attire of the Gaddi tribe. The Gaddis come from a semi-nomadic sheep-herding heritage. While only a few shepherds still follow this lifestyle today, many of the tribe’s ancient customs and vibrant garments remain alive and are proudly worn throughout the year.
The dolls’ skin is made from 100 percent cotton knit, and their hair uses recycled cotton and polyester yarn. Each doll is filled with 100 percent Himalayan sheep’s wool. Most of the clothing is cotton and can easily be removed.
On request, we can replace the wool filling with recycled Polyfill.
Please note that the dolls can only be sponge-washed and should not be dipped in water.
Because each doll is handcrafted, slight variations occur in facial expression, detailing, and the fabrics used for the garments.
Additional doll clothes (knitted or stitched), doll bedding, and a doll sling can be added for extra fun.
